Yanai Documentation
Your brain. Their AI. Own your context, carry it everywhere.
What is Yanai?
Yanai is your personal AI memory — independent of any platform. It lets you build a persistent, organized profile of who you are — your work, preferences, projects, expertise, and more — and carry it to any AI tool that supports MCP (Model Context Protocol).
Every AI tool today remembers your conversations — but only inside itself. Yanai changes that. Your context belongs to you, lives in one place, and travels with you across Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Windsurf, and any MCP-compatible client. You control what's stored, who can access it, and where it goes.
For teams, Yanai becomes your organization's collective brain. Individual knowledge flows up through teams to the org level automatically — protecting against knowledge loss and making everyone's AI smarter. When someone leaves, their context stays.
The Problem
Your AI memory is trapped inside each platform. Claude knows your preferences — but Cursor doesn't. ChatGPT has your project context — but it vanishes when you close the tab. Every tool is an island, and you're the one who pays the cost.
For businesses, the problem is worse. Critical knowledge lives in people's heads and scattered AI conversations. When someone leaves, it leaves with them. When someone needs an answer, they play "ask around until you find who knows."
How Yanai Solves It
- Build your context once. Organize your life into "aspects" — work, hobbies, health, projects — and add context through chat, manual entry, or integrations.
- Carry it everywhere. Connect Yanai to Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible tool via OAuth. One connection, instant context — zero lock-in.
- AI learns, you own it. As you work, Yanai learns. Important memories get stronger. Noise fades naturally. And it all belongs to you.
Key Features
For Individuals
- Aspects — Organize your context into meaningful life categories (Work, Hobbies, Health, Education, and more)
- Cognitive Memory System — Five memory sectors (episodic, semantic, procedural, emotional, reflective) with natural salience, decay, and reinforcement — just like human memory
- Works with any MCP client — Claude Desktop, Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, and more
- Proactive learning — AI agents automatically store what they learn and recall it in future conversations
- Portable by design — Your context is never locked into a single AI tool. Switch freely.
For Teams and Enterprise
- Bottom-up knowledge propagation — Individual knowledge flows through teams to the org, with AI-filtered relevance at each level
- Churn protection — When someone leaves, their knowledge stays with the organization
- AI Chat — Ask questions across your entire organization's collective knowledge base
- Scoped access — Personal context stays personal. Org context stays within the org. Hard boundaries enforced at the token level.

Quick Start
1. Create your account
Sign up at yanai.ai. The onboarding chat will help you set up your first aspects and seed your initial context.
2. Add context
Add information to your aspects — your tech stack, project details, preferences, expertise. You can do this through:
- The onboarding chat
- Manually adding context entries
- Connecting integrations (for organizations)
3. Connect your AI tools
Add Yanai to your favorite AI tool in under a minute. Each tool connects via OAuth — just add the server URL and authorize with your Yanai account.
That's it. Your next AI conversation will have your full context — owned by you, not the platform.
